Polar Plunge, hosted by Special Olympics New York, is set to make a returning splash toPlayland Beach on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11:30 a.m. Approximately 1,000+ from all over Westchester County, including local law enforcement, firefighters, families, local high school groups
and many other members of the community will come together to plunge into the freezing Long Island Sound to raise funds and
support Special Olympics New York athletes.
The Polar Plunge is one of the most popular, profitable, and exciting fundraisers for the Special Olympics New York. Last year at the Westchester Plunge, there were over 1,500 participants raising more than $260,000. This year’s goal is to raise $265,000 to support SONY’s mission of promoting authentic sports and inclusion to people with intellectual disabilities. Participants raise money by asking friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances for donations that help to provide year-round sports training and competition for individuals with
intellectual disabilities in communities across the state.
At the Polar Plunge, Playland will celebrate the day and will feature DJ Joey to jazz up the crowd, while having several food trucks on site with warm snacks and refreshments including hot chocolate for the plungers.
