Harrison rolls behind Murphy’s three-goal day

Sometimes, over the course of a long season, a team will take the field and find that everything it tries seems to work. Such was the case for Harrison on Friday afternoon, as the Huskies hosted a solid Pelham team and turned in its best performance of the year, authoring a 3-0 win over the Pelicans.

Ingrid Murphy battles for possession against Eastchester on Sept. 20. Murphy had all three goals in Harrison’s 3-0 win.

Now, with a signature win under their belts, the Huskies will try to build on that win and make a true push in the second half of the season.

Much of Harrison’s success on Friday came as a result of standout Ingrid Murphy, who accounted for each of the Huskies’ three goals on the afternoon. Murphy’s first tally came after she beat the defense just minutes into the game. She would make it 2-0 shortly after, putting the Huskies in firm control of the game against a Pelican squad that came in boasting a 3-1-1 record.

“Getting that early lead gave us a lot of confidence,” said Murphy. “Then, getting the second goal so soon after, that helped a lot too.”

Murphy’s three goal day was not the only highlight for the Huskies, who played a solid team game overall. Cara Acocella tallied two assists on the offensive end and Kayla Ito kept a clean sheet in net, making 11 stops including a few turn-aways that helped preserve Harrison’s momentum.

Murphy said that the game was an especially important one for the Huskies, who were coming off a 4-1 loss to Tappan Zee and looking to build some momentum as the bulk of the league schedule got underway.

“This was a big game for us, especially coming off a loss,” said Murphy. “I think this was the first game all year that we were completely clicking.”

The Huskies—now 3-3-1—will look to continue their strong play as that take on the rest of their league foes in coming days. On Sept. 26, they will tangle with reigning state champion Rye before hosting Byram Hills on Saturday.

According to Murphy, the Huskies know how tough this next stretch will be and need to stick together if they hope to navigate the perils of league play.

“We just have to keep on playing together and improving,” said Murphy. “We can really only concentrate on playing our game.”
