Northwell Health has opened a new ophthalmology practice, Northwell Health Eye Institute, Wachenheim Center at Harrison, with the help of a generous $2.5 million gift from philanthropists and local residents Sue and Ed Wachenheim. The project, totaling $3.3 million, spans more than 6,200 square feet of space dedicated to delivering comprehensive eye care across a range of ophthalmology sub-specialties,
including corneal and refractive surgery, and uveitis, retina and glaucoma care. The state-of-theart facility, which employs a team of five physicians, is located at 440 Mamaroneck Ave., room 407 in Harrison.
“We are deeply grateful to Sue and Ed for their generosity, which has made it possible to open this exceptional eye care facility in Westchester County,” said Kevin Beiner, president, Northwell Health Western Market. “Their support helps us bring advanced ophthalmology
services to the community and elevate the standard of care for all patients.”
The practice features 11 exam rooms, a diagnostic room, a visual field room for assessing peripheral vision, a procedure room for laser and minimally invasive treatments, a medication room and a shared office space for doctors. The new location, conveniently serving families in
Westchester and the surrounding communities, is an extension of Northwell Health’s Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH) in Manhattan, a leader in eye care and home to one of the largest glaucoma centers in the region.
The Wachenheims have been generous longtime supporters of ophthalmology care at Northwell. In 2022 and 2023, the Wachenheims made two additional donations to establish a wet lab and simulation training center at MEETH, providing ophthalmology students and practicing
physicians with the opportunity to refine their surgical techniques before operating on patients. Ed Wachenheim was honored to be the first patient seen by the director of the new practice, Celso Tello, MD, a glaucoma expert, who also serves as chairman emeritus of ophthalmology at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital and MEETH.
